WHO TOLD YOU, YOU ARE MIGHTY?
I had a funny experience that taught me so much about getting to understand the root of a matter before making personal conclusions and living life based on those conclusions; I got talking with a friend who never wanted to give up his opinion over the subject, on my own end too, my candid opinion was highly esteemed, so we got talking and talking, giving different reasons about why we think that what we believe is the truth, in the midst of that conversation and after about 45 mins of trying to defend our believes, it sincerely occurred to me that I had no strong basis for that believe, I had been taught by different people with different views and testimonies about the subject, but I had not done a thorough search to find out what really the truth was, I had not found the truth for myself, I only built on people's ideas and experiences about the subject, and that was a dangerous place to stand because the day the Faith was tried it became shaky, it couldn't defend itself.
Gideon, the young man we talked about in the first and second lesson, didn't want to build his life on a shaky ground, an illusion, a mirage, something not true, so after the angel told him that he is a mighty man of valour and had the ability to war and defeat the midianites, the same wicked people who ransacked and rendered their land impoverished, he inquisitively had to ask further questions: but why is this happening, why is that happening and finally he asked the Angel to show him a sign to validate all the things he had told him. Gideon had to be sure because he knew that information had the capacity to change the course of his life forever, and it did.
I am thinking about those things we may have believed that have consequently affected the course of our lives negatively; those baseless facts that have driven our responses, attitude towards life and relationship with ourselves and others.
But who told us all that? Those things that form our believe systems, core values and patterns to life. Those ideas you cling unto, those opinions you highly esteem have you had time to validate them?
Someone told you you can't be good in mathematics, they told you no one succeeds from your clan, they said no one get an A in that subject, you've heard different things and this is the time to begin to vet these things; the things you have heard about yourself, the things you have held on for so long.
They said you are not beautiful enough, really? Now what do you think? What do you believe? because the things you believe whether consciously or unconsciously determines your actions and all together your outcomes. If believes are that powerful is it therefore needful to #IdentifyTheSourceOfYourBelieves. Gideon did not hesitate in doing that, he sought to be sure of who was delivering the message to him and when he found out it was God, he found assurance in that believe.
What do you believe about yourself? Who told you all what you now believe about yourself? About your life?
